The original Spa was built by the Romans in third century, but had to suffer through long centuries of decadence and abandonment until in nineteenth century its use was revived.. It was then that was undertaken the restoration of the Roman Health resort, which until nowadays comprises two circular dome roofed thermae. These domes have been declared National Monuments. At the same time it began the construction of the new facilities, being integrated in the original structure, such as a swimming pool around the spring, out-buildings based on marble basins and shower passages, which have easy access through sunny yards and promenades surrounded by many and huge trees.

The twentieth century is witness to deep vicissitudes along the history of the thermae, from the enjoyment in the twenties of its greatest splendor, to later, in the seventies, its fall into oblivion. At the end of the century it is enjoying a peak of a thermal culture which allowed the renewal of the project, whose primary purpose is to provide comprehensive medical and wellness care in an environment that integrates spa services, as well as traditional, complimentary alternative therapies and treatments such us hydro-massage swimming pools, inhalations rooms, Turkish bath, massage rooms and aesthetic treatments.

To establish an environment of quietness and appropriate repose to hydrothermal treatment constitutes a fundamental aim of the project of modernization of the Spa. Thus, the traditional parks in which to have a walk have been enlarged with spacious gardens to sunbathe and practice the Kneipp's cure, a hydro-massage outdoor swimming pool has been built and along with an open-air day nursery and a small free sport area in which to paddle or hire bikes and canoes. There you can find several and different well-explained trekking-routes to climb the mount or the castle.
